A massive wildfire has scorched over 11,500 acres in New Jersey’s Pinelands, becoming possibly the worst in two decades.

The Jones Road Fire, only 30% contained, forced 1,300 home evacuations and shut down parts of the Garden State Parkway.

Lt.

Governor Tahesha Way declared a state of emergency as crews battle intense flames near Barnegat and Lacey townships.

With over 662 wildfires this year—more than double the usual average—climate conditions and wind have accelerated the spread.

Officials hope expected rain will help fully contain the fire by the weekend.
